About Jakob Gogebashvili House-Museum
The Iakob Gogebashvili House-Museum, located in the village of Variani, Gori Municipality, in the Shida Kartli region, was established on December 14, 1958.
The museum's mission is to promote Georgia's historical, national, and cultural values, as well as to preserve, protect, and popularize the cultural and intellectual heritage of Iakob Gogebashvili.
Recognized as part of Georgia's cultural heritage, the House-Museum was officially granted this status in 2018. In 2019, by decree of the Government of Georgia, it was classified as a site of national significance. The museum includes Iakob Gogebashvili's residential house and yard, the first school he founded in 1900, an exhibition hall, and a storage facility for the museum's collection.
As of 2024, the museum's collection houses 1,716 artifacts, including 56 memorial items belonging to Iakob Gogebashvili, books from the 19th and 20th centuries, photographs, journals, newspapers, and various publications, as well as paintings and other artworks. The museum also features works by prominent artists such as Elene Akhvlediani, Vakhtang Japaridze, and others.
